Been Lurking, Time to Post!

Hi all from New York. Bit of backstory on myself. I was big into the RadioShack Xmods when they were a current thing. Always had a passion for drifting, even on RC scale, but didn't have money for a proper rig. I got my woman to get me an HPI Sprint 2 back in October for my birthday.

Since then, I've done a ton of lurking here and on other sites, checking out people's builds and pulling a couple ideas here and there. For the time being, this is how project Run2Drift is set up:

Novak Drift Spec brushless system
Savox 1258 high speed, high torque metal gear servo
Factory receiver/radio
1.5 CS (18 rear and 12 front), rigged up a kind of ghetto tensioner for the front. Waiting on parts to clean it up.
27t pinion, 84t Spur
Front One Way, Locked Rear (I used high grade epoxy from the body shop I work in to lock it)
RS4 steering mixed with aluminum Sprint 2 steering arms
Front and rear wheel hubs off an R31 (aluminum)
Cut the tops and sides off the stock C hubs (6* castor) and used a spare set of servo mounts to make upper arms
Sakura Ultra Wide Angle CVDs up front and stock Sakura CVDs in the rear (from a D3)
Yeah Racing Adjustable Aluminum shocks
Front monoshock setup (although I may switch it to how I had it before with the top of the shocks mounted on a hinge and linked to each other)

I think that's about it at the moment. The car handles wonderfully. I've got a buddy who is also on here (don't remember his username, text me if you see this Mike) with an MST FXX and Sakura D3 that I run with regularly. We don't have a local course, so we've mostly been using our driveways and basements. Got a nice track in progress at my house. I'll get some pics up in the next day or two.

I've also got the carcass to another Sprint 2 that I'll work on building up into a second car. It'll be setup the same except RWD.

3d printing

Hey all, not sure if it has been done already, but as I am new here, I will try my luck.

3d printing has come long way, and as I wait for my parts to arrive I look into option parts made on 3d printers. Im sure there are many designs ready, but probably not as many available. So when ever you see a ready design that can be re-used, share a link :) This will save bunch of time for people who may not want to learn all design aspects of 3d printing, and just simply want to re-use someones work to save time.

Lets make this list generic, so anything that you see, if its rims, bumpers, 1/10 accessories like bottles, tables, chairs, throw a link here :) It will take you a minute of effort, but will save someone hours of struggle.

Thanks)

What are some front knuckles that are compatible with a sakura d3 rwd? Also side note, I'm planning to do a c-hub delete mod since my c-hubs broke in half. Any suggestions of methods? I've seen a few threads on here but images weren't very helpful

I've been searching around for a forum that'd help me. I have a sakura d3 already set up as rwd (took out the CVDs and the gear with belt). I broke my c-hubs were broke so I plan to do a delete mod. The front knuckles (stock) aren't in good shape. What is a cheap/best mod for this situation? I've heard a bunch of suggestions but would like some more input before I buy and cut a bunch of stuff.

Posting this up in case anyone is interested in attending.

So far I know we have a team from Springfield and St. Louis attending, 2 from Chicago. Possibly teams from Michigan / Wisconsin / Ohio.  This will be one not to miss.

More details:

Midwest Slidewayz with the courtesy, help and support of Chicagoland Toys 'N Hobbies will be hosting its very first group tandem event this May.

As far as rules go, its a minimum of 3 but no more than 5 drivers per team. Ideally we are trying to do matching livery or team stickers/same color as this will be judged. It doesn't have to be perfect or exact but try and keep your theme and shells a secret as this will build more suspense. Teasers are okay tho. PLEASE PM ME YOUR CLUB NAME & TOTAL NUMBER OF DRIVERS.

Tires for 50/50 or CS teams

Raikou DP50s all around are HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. They give the best scale speed on our track in awd form. But if you are comfortable using something else, by all means do so.

Tires for RWD

It is open with the front, so run what you feel comfortable running. For the rears, we personally are running Mikuni carpet EVO II's. These are HIGHLY RECOMMENDED but not required. So, again whatever you feel comfortable with.

Prizes

Since we are pretty much doing this in support of our gray area hobby and fun BASICALLY, we wont have anything besides a big ass ridiculous trophy. If your team wins, we will have a plaque made in honor of your team, your names, and chassis' represented placed on the trophy and ship it out to you. The trophy will be permanent but the plaque will be replaced yearly for the winning team, so PLEASE try and take care of it.

Entree fee

$10 per driver. This will help the hobby shop cover some of the electricity used for the two days.

Surface

We are currently in the process of painting the track section in high gloss epoxy. This will probably be more slippery than what you're accustomed to. ***NOTE*** as all of this is coming out of our own pockets, try and watch your step while moving around the track.

Food

We will be catering Taco Burrito King for the event day but there are plenty of places to eat within 2-3 miles of the shop.

FRIDAY

6pm Roll in, setup up your pit, tune and practice.
10pm roll out.

*NOTE*
There will be others on the track so be courteous. *IF YOU SPIN OUT OR CRASH, PLEASE DO NOT REVERSE OR MOVE UNTIL YOU ARE CLEAR TO DO SO*

SATURDAY

09:00am - 09:30 Roll-in
09:45am - 09:55 Drivers Meeting
10:00am - 11:45 Group Practice
11:45am - 12:45 Lunch Break
01:00pm - TBA Group Comp

3Racing Sakura RWD Build Help

Hey guys,

Looking for a little help on what I need to correct to get this build finished and drifting. After a year or so just screwing around with a low budget HSP RTR AWD drift car, I realized that I was pretty into it and felt it was worth investing a little more money into a new chassis.

Im not really sure what drove me to go with 3Racing but i ultimately settled on going with this platform to build on. I tried figuring out the best setup by comparing other forums and trying to get a general understanding of what was needed to put together a build peace by peace.

After getting everything put together I realized I swapped out the original motor/esc combo in my cart for some reason and purchased a club spec motor and im not sure if thats the problem im having right now. The car wants to just do burn outs.

So far:
3racing sakura d4 RWD chassis
Yeah Racing 48 pitch 22 teeth gear/pinion
Yeah Racing aluminum spur support
Yeah Racing Gyro GC301
OMG low profile servo
Aluminum curve slide track steering
Buddyclub Justock Clubspec
Yeah Racing Hackmoto XTA 13.5t motor

Ill try and get the specific camber/toe settings I have as well as ride height but any tips for trying to tune this setup? Am I getting too much power from the motor?

Thanks for the help.

Custom Widebody FD3S RX7

Greetings Everyone!

I'm new to RC's in general and this is my first build. My friend unfortunately suckered me into this hobby by showing me tons of pictures and videos of some cool RC's. Having a motorsport background and previously owning an FD it was pretty much predetermined which body I was going to build as my drifter. After hours of browsing the internet I didn't really fall in love with any of the bodies out there in terms of RX7s so I decided to build my own.

From the start I knew I wanted to build something subtle and clean. I didn't want a missile build-they can be cool but just not my cup of tea. I wanted a mix match of stuff but the key features I'm trying to incorporate are things such as Feed (fujita engineering) front fenders, rolled rear fenders, RE-Amemyia hood, tail light spoiler.

To give you kind of an idea of what my end goal here is a car

For my chassis I picked up a Eagle Racing TA05 RWD Chassis (For those who were wondering)

.jpg   ERChassis.jpg (Size: 819.79 KB / Downloads: 8)
Overall seems to be a pretty nice chassis for the money. My friend ended up getting a yokomo and I just didn't want to drop that kind of coin.

The base body is just a 99' Spec Rx7 from Tamiya.

.jpeg   tamiya.jpeg (Size: 745.73 KB / Downloads: 6)
I picked the Tamiya because it seemed to be the most accurate model and heard the quality for their bodies were great.

After purchasing the body I had to think a lot about what I wanted to do. I was really worried about potentially ruining a $50 body. In the mean time I picked up another set of wheels and tires as one of the wheels that came in my Eagle Racing kit was really off balanced.

New wheel setup under the body. Sadly the poke wasn't the only problem I ran into. The front wheels were also hitting the wheel wells.

Mini Review - Mini Works Body Lines & Cherry Blossom Livery

I feel that body lines are something that can add considerable depth and realism to a monotone RC drift body. There are several different methods to do this, including ABC Hobby tape, Gundam panel line markers, Copic Multiliners, and Sakura Micron pens. I saw these on an internet forum and because they were fairly local to me, I would give them a shot.

I placed the order on Thursday and they shipped the next day via USPS First Class Mail.

Mini Works Body Lines - $5.49 plus s&h

These come in a 50 pack, with 25 .7x225mm lines and 25 .5x225mm lines. I ended up using the .7mm lines for the door and hatch body lines and the .5mm lines for the hood and headlight body lines. However, the website suggests using the .7mm lines for the gap between hood and fenders and the .5mm lines for the door gaps and I think that the .7mm lines might be a tad thick for what I used them for, the .5mm lines being more realistic.

Applying them was fairly simple and straightforward, and unlike the ABC Hobby tape, you don't have to worry too much about the lines stretching during installation and then contracting and pealing off. I trimmed the lines in place with a pair of 4" Kai needlecraft scissors, which made installation a snap. My only caveat is that you should make sure that your lines are straight and taut before pressing down.

Mini Works Cherry Tree Livery - $9.99

These comes in a pack of two branches and 10 cherry blossoms, with two blossoms of each size that progressively grow larger. The branches, cut out in black vinyl, are mirrored so you can choose which side to put them on or even mount the on your hood. The blossoms, cut in gold foil, are really fragile and I managed to destroy 2 of them (one for each side) removing them from the backing paper as the die cut is a bit deep. However, you get 20 blossoms total so there is room for error.

When I applied my decals, I wanted to give the illusion of the blossoms being blown from the branch and towards the viewer, hence their growing larger towards the rear of the car.

Let me know what you think. I still need to apply the window trim, and light decals, but I think you get a good sense of the Mini Works products in this review.

Hello from Sweden

Hello!

I'm a born-in-the-1980's guy from Sweden with a passion for RC!
This forum seemed prominent when looking for RC-drift information, so I will resort to your knowledge when in need. Which will be quite a lot. (:

I got my first RC car five years ago, and it was a Traxxas Slash 4x4. I love it! I got absolutely hooked immediately and have had lots of fun with it! It being a short course truck, it takes quite a beating, though, so there's no point in investing time and money into looks and realism.

That's what I'm hoping to get more of from RC-drifting!
Thinking that a drift car won't take the same abuse, I hope to spend time making the body look great, and to tweak the setup in detail (and expect to notice differences). I like building and hunting for better parts!

I don't know yet what kind of drifter I want, but I'm sure whatever I decide it will be an exciting journey!

What is generally referred to with "Drift Package"?

Could you please help a newbie clarify the meaning of "drift package"?
I'm currently thinking about the announcement of the Wrap-Up Next's Nervis v2, but the same question applies to much more.

Hop-ups often say the part/kit is to be used with "drift package".
What exactly does that mean?

I know Yokomo has a big line-up of drift vehicles:
http://www.teamyokomo.com/product/products.html#drift
http://www.driftpackage.com/lineup/lineup.html
  • DIB
  • DPR
  • DPM
  • (Drift Package?) Plus Type-C
  • Drift Racer
Are all of these different variants of the "drift package"?
The YD-4 does not seem to be a "drift package"?

As for the Nervis, I guess that if I don't already have any chassis, it would be most beneficial to get the Type-C and upgrade with the Nervis?
It seems a waste to get a DIB + Nervis, right?
